About Me
My name is
Rebecca Simpson
I undertook training to become an Integrative Counsellor following many years nursing within the NHS. My counselling work has a focus on Gestalt Therapy. I also incorporate other counselling theories such Internal Family Systems, and Compassion Focused Therapy and Mindfulness.
Working as a nurse in the NHS, I gained experience caring for adults, requiring time in Intensive Care and those having surgery, some of which would be life changing. This included amputations, formation of stomas and breast cancer. I understand how traumatic being admitted to hospital can be, and have supported both patients and their family during this time.
For the last 18 years of my nursing career, I worked within Neonatal Units, caring for babies born extremely preterm (from 23/24 weeks, to the sick newborn and those requiring neonatal surgery. Throughout this time, I supported parents and families in both the loss of a normal birth and through their neonatal journey, with it's many ups and downs.
I became the nursing lead for the Bereavement Group, providing training for both medical and nursing staff. We also focused on parental experience and creation of memories for parents of those babies who didn’t survive.
As part of my role in nursing, I supported many nursing staff in their development and supported them through difficult times, both within work and in their private lives.
I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I abide by their ethical code.
I volunteer for Cruse the Bereavement Charity.
